Tuesday 1st March: Brilliant sunshine, sunny cold and 5°C to 15°C
Day in Te Anau: A Rest day to sleep, shop, do coffee, stock up and get ready for the Routeburn Track
Accommodation: Lakeside Motel Te Anau
A day off with no plan. Highlight was just a magnificent day with blue skies.
Ian is up early to capture the beautiful cold morning. A day for me to catch up on photos and to finish typing my blog. Graham sleeps til 11am in while Jenny patiently waits for him to finish listening to Alan Jones. Milton is off looking for a good WiFi connection. The motel has WiFi - but only sometimes. Donna and I are ready to go shopping.
By mid morning Donna, Ian and I stroll the 1k up to the town, picking up Milton at his WiFi hotspot on the way, and after checking out a few shops, stop off at the Sandfly Café, famous for its coffee. We are not disappointed. The coffee is hot and very milky. Jenny joins us a little later and Graham much later. Time to do a bit of grocery shopping at the Fresh Choice supermarket, in the appropriately named street, Wong Way.
Ian and I head back to the motel for a lunch of hot corn, crackers and cheese and a wine. Donna, Milton, Jenny and Graham visit the DOC info centre, then they stroll back to town to see the Fiordland 3D film at the cinema at 5pm. I do some more blogging and sorting photos. We all meet at the Blackdog Bar at 5.30pm for a drink before a bit more shopping and dinner back at the motel in Room 21 with a view. Another magnificent meal of cheeses, salad, chicken, corn and wine.
A nice way to end the day and a fantastic end to the Kepler Track. Tomorrow we're off to start the Routeburn which should be a piece of cake with shorter days and lesser heights to climb
